What is a 1:8 or 1:12 twist going to do that a 1:9 twist does not.  I am thinking of buying one of the RRA varmint uppers but they come in 1:8 or 1:12 twist.  Is this good, bad or indifferent.  I plan on using 55 or 62 grain factory ammunition.

Basically,
         1-12=50gr range
          1-9=60gr range
          1-7 70gr range  put 1-8 in between.

If you intend on only using 55 or 62 grain factory ammunition, then you gain nothing by going to a 1:8 or 1;12 twist.  1:9 will work just fine.

1x9 will shoot most of you factory off the shelf ammo that you could easily find.

1x12 for light varmint loads
1x8 a bit heavier loads than 1x9
