Hi,

I've finally decided to sit down and start planning out my project rifle. Nothing fancy, just an A2.
Are there any companies that you guy could reccomend? I'm trying to keep the build under $575.
Also any feedback avalible on the Beta C mag?? Thought I'd buy one just for the fun of it.

Thanks,
Kilroy

Get a Model 1 or MA parts kit, and a Stag/Ameetec/etc. receiver.

You want to keep the build under $575, but are willing to dump $250 on a Beta mag?  My friend, I would suggest that you reconsider your priorities.

The Beta was developed for the military market, but was found to be unsat.  It was remarketed to LE and civilian use, with the LE crowd avoiding it like the plague as well.  Sure there are people who think the Beta mag is cool, but there are guys who like fat girls, so there is no explaining certain things.

Stick with USGI magazines, and build a good solid rifle.  You will be much happier in the end.

Ditto, unless you have an auto sear, a militia, and plan to be support infantry in a SHTF situation I wouldnt bother with it. Also the Beta C uses graphite as lube, which to the best of my knowledge, doesnt agree with the receiver(')s metals.

You gotta like it when the truth hits you right between the eyes.  Build a nice rifle with quality parts for about $700 and buy plenty of USGI mags.  That's good advise right there.

Yep.  Dont skimp on your rifle over $125.  That is stupid.  You will spend 4 times the rifle cost in ammo in no time at all.

Get a barrel with a chrome lined chamber and bore, nato spec chamber, and the rest is cake.  Bushmaster, RRA, Colt are good choices.

Check out Eaglefirearms and Del-Ton.  Excellent prices and service.

Both offer quality products.  Eagle offers Rock River which is top quality.  Del-ton offers CMT, DPMS, and Wilson which are common producers in the build-it-yourself market.

The beta mag is your choice.  I would probably spend that money on quality USGI mags and ammo, if it were me.

Watch the EE for deals, you can save a ton of money that way and still get good parts.

Dang......

I'm just pricing stuff and asking for a direction to be pointed in. Under $600 would be nice, but I'll probably end up spending more.

The C mag was one of those "Liberals hate it, so by owning one I'll feel all warm and fuzzy" and just for the heck of it kind of things. Still got until '08 to buy one (Not saying another ban will happen, but wouldn't be surprised if it happened again)

I have built several rifles with kits from J&T, and they are as good as any of my Bushies, Armalites, Colts, etc.

They piss off liberals no more than a 30 round mag, or any AR15.  The diference is that they cost 25X more and don't work anywhere near as well as a USGI mag.  If you want to get one just because it looks cool, it is certainly your money, but just know ahead of time that its failed in its military trials.
