Who has the cheapest and most reliable build kits for the AR-15? Got a freind looking to build one... Oly Arms has one but they are kinda high... (thats what I have) And who sells the Polymer type AR-15 rifle I have been seeing? But stock and lower is all in one.... Thanks, Kimbo

Cavalryarms is no longer selling to the public as far as i know. You have to get the polymer lowers from Amalite As for cheep kits look at J&T distributing or Model 1 Sales. I've been looking for a friend and the best I've come up with is J&T: 16" Light weight Chrome lined pre Ban Kit with a Stag Lower from Eagle firearms for a total of $594.95 w/o shipping and FFL transfer charge. |
I would rule out Model 1 Sales solely from the standpoint that since AR15Plinker is in TX, since he would have to pay 8.25% sales tax on anything he orders in them, which makes them more expensive than most of the other kit vendors. Most of their kits are roughly $20 cheaper than similar kits from J&T Distributing, for example, but then if you have to add $35 sales tax, it erases that and then some. |

Great topic...I'm new to the AR world and figured I may be able to buy a kit and save a few hungred bucks. I have a couple of questions for you seasoned guys... 1. How much skill/knowledge does it take to assemble one? I've field striped a M16 before, but that's the extent of my rifle assembly experience. Does it take special tools to assemble a kit? 2. Are assembly instructinos usually provided by the manufacturer/distributor? 3. I noticed the kits are usually sold absent a stripped lower receiver, does this mean all the stripped parts are within the kit and all I need to buy is the stripped lower receiver--or must I buy all the little parts that go within as well? 4. Will current kits usually work with any stripped lower receiver? 5. And 5, it appears one gets around using a FFL when buying the kits---does this apply for all the parts that must be added (i.e. the lower receive) as well? thanks much.... |

.308 and .300 wm are not available on a regular ar15 lower, you need an AR10 lower (or something simliar) for those. 6.8 will work on a regular AR15 lower and they are available from Bravo Co, little button at top of page (and other places) ammo is tough, I passed on 6.8mm for now. If the ammo becomes plentiful, I'll get one. If you want a Cavarms lower Ameetec Arms (another little button at the top of the screen) usually has them. They are (or were) in the same building as Cavarms I think. You would want to check with Cavarms about using a non 5.56mm upper. I don't know what they say about the larger calibers with their lower. I have a Cavarms lower (I've had a couple) kind of neat. The Coyote is the best looking of them in my opinion. |
