| Hey all, I'm new to the forums so I may have missed this in the mix but I thought I would ask anyway. I'm building up my Bushmaster XM15-ES2, it seems to be a mix of a few guns if you ask me. The lower has an A2 stock and all of that fun stuff but the upper has an A1 rear sight and an A2 front sight (4 prong). I just put on bushmasters A1E1 sight adjustment nob to make adjustments easier. My question is this, I want to add a 4 rail FF to my gun, I"ll most likely get a LaRue 7.0 on it, I'm also going to have the barrel threaded and a muzzle break installed. Do you feel it would be a decent bed for modification given that the upper is an A1config? I have some of the rails that screw in to the top for mounting optics, but I was planning on mounting something like an EOTech on the handguard since that would be more stable. I see most of the rifles built up with the 4 rails are flattops, I just wondered if an A1 would still be viable with that kind of configuration. Any suggestions/testamonials would be appreciated. Thanks. |
| Wow, that is a beauty. Have you ever shot much with a rig like that? I'm wondering how well that single rail screwed in on the upper would hold up. Im sure it will be more stable off the rail but that does look pretty darn sweet. Thank you for that post, I'm drooling. |
I've fired it plenty, and it works well, Almost everything I do revolves around CQB stuff, so with it sitting that high, it certainly isn't meant to be a bench rest gun. I like that it gives a good field of view and allows for easy two eye open shooting. The carry handle mounts are available pretty cheap, and if you think you might like it, its worth trying out. It is much cheaper than a rail, and might fill the bill for you. |
Yep, not only does Stickman have some kick ass rifles he is also very skilled at taking outstanding pictures of them! I have the same configuration as Stickman and truth be told it's one of my favorite little carbines. It's light, simple and stone reliable. |
| Nice, now I'm getting excited, I may not even have to drop 200 on a high quality 4 rail if I can find a reliable handle mount with little play in it. I don't plan on using this for a bench gun anyhow, these babies were meant to move :) I'll save the bench shooting for my varmint rifles. Now I'd only really be getting a 4 rail to mount a verticle grip, but i could go with a YHM if I don't have to rely on it being rock solid for optics. Thanks for all your info, I'm just getting into these modifications and it's a great help to have access to such a wealth of knowlege. |

Glad to be of service, if you wanted to go even cheaper to see if you liked the VFG, you could get one of the rails that bolt to the handguard. If you find you don't like it, you aren't out much cash. The carry handle mount on mine was around $15, and I used a bit of loctite to keep the fastner in place figuring it was the weakest link. It has given me no problems, so don't think you need to dump large cash into that area either. |
