they are the round caps and the same for all carbine length rifles and hand guards( 'cept the earliest of them)... they may vary slightly due to barrel diameter though, not sure.

round handguard caps are all the same within the same bbl. pofile.

car or m4 handguards will work the same

there are real ones and cheapies

this is real M4 cap

note the notches in the bottom, most cheapies are round stampings, the leading edge having a pronounced curve.

Exactly! Thanks Tweak. I thought I'd been hallucinating! Knew I'd seen caps of this style and had read something about the differences somewhere. Do you know where I can find a couple? (my 222rem 14.5"barrel carbine functions flawlessly after I followed your advice re gas port size, by the way!) Regards. Keith.

glad to hear it, you might try some of the bigger COLT dealers, they might have a loose one, or you could try Stokes, he's got lots of COLT odds and ends.

ETA: the one you want is pn CX64672. The description says handguard cup; that's a typo.

My BM 14.5 upper came with the "real" M4 cap. has the same cut outs. I'll try to see if I can find a part number

Thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, I'm up against the usual problems as nobody wants to ship to where I live in Spain, except Brownells, with whom I've had an account for some time now,, and a couple of other Companies, the one that was mentioned in the penultimate post being one of them. I've just discovered that Brownells do normally stock M4/M4 A1 h/caps, part no SP64672, and I couldn't find this in their catalogue because it's listed, for some reason, under "AR-15 Match Target Lightweight", and marked as for 7.62 x 39cal, page 380 cat. price $4.40 (but out of stock at present). Rather than plead with others, I've placed an order with Brownells, hoping that they'll get some in stock at some stage.

Spain? You should have your Profile reflect that. Yes, Brownells carries genooowine COLT parts so I'd say they;re the best bet for many reasons. Good luck.

You might want to ask the BFI guys for a pic of that cap, the SGW in the product number makes me think it's an OAI, not M4, cap

Thought I'd just let you know that yesterday Brownells sent me an email saying that they'd just shipped me two SP 64672 handguard caps (their stock no 160-301-762) for £3.52 each. Total cost SHIPPED to me $7.04!!! I've always found their service second to none but think this is really good service.

Two Colt M4 handguard caps arrived in Spain and I collected today from post office just a few dats after shipping. Cost to me £7.04. Shipping cost, $19.15, paid by Brownells. Pretty good service, I think!
