I've never pulled the barrel on an AR, in fact I've only had mine a few weeks but I'm thinking about changing the A2 upper to a Flattop.

My question is, can I buy the upper get a vice and wrench and just change it out?
It's a bushmaster target model with a 20" barrel on it.

Any feedback?
Thanks,

With the proper vice block and barrel wrench, it is very easy to do.

Is matching the bolt and the barrel the major concern or can changing the upper reciever change the headspace itsef.

I'll get some headspace gauges either way but I'm just wondering where the key points are.

This is rarely an issue.  Checking is a good practice, but you probably don't have anything to worry about.
