I read on an web site that it might be impossible to zero in a AR15 with a detachable carrying handle that is not specifically matched to the barrel. In other words, if the barrel you are using is of a different brand then the carring handle, the sights may not line up like they should preventing a perfect zero. My question is has anyone had any problems zero in a custom built AR15 using a DPMS flat top upper receiver with a DPMS detachable carrying handle and a Bushmaster 16 inch, pre-ban chrome lined heavy barrel?. Thanks. |

+1 I just built up a flattop Colt and with an ARMS #40 flip up rear sight and a YHM flipup front sight/gas block it was recommended I go with the taller post so I did. Funny thing is I really didn't need it but it gives me more room to play with so I don't have any regrets. I haven't zeroed a 200 yards, I used the "estimation" technique and 25 yards but I got consitent results. I have read that at least the Colt flattops are a little higher which is why you need this. It would make sense that the other manufacturers are the same because I have a GG&G floating rail system on the front and it lines up perfectly with the flattop like it would on any other manufacturer. Good luck :) Oh, the sight post was like $4 so its not a big deal either way. |
You probably would. It has to do with the height of the shelf on the front sight tower and the height of most removable BUIS. Colt has an "F" marked front sight tower that is machined at a higher height than standard. There are a number of reasons floating around stating why, but I'm not sure which to believe. Anyway, the common solutions for use with a BUIS is either to get a barrel with an "F" stamped FSB installed on it or go with the standard FSB with the Bushmaster +0.040" taller front sight post. |
| Thanks for all the replys, i haven't received the barrel yet from Bushmaster due to backorder so i guess i'll cancel it and order a DPMS barrel to go with my DPMS flat top upper. That way i'll know it should work right cause the parts were made to work with each other. Again Thanks for all the replys, i'll post pictures of build when it's finshed. |

my bushie m4gery (new in february) could not zero. I chose to just buy the colt front sight post (probably cheaper than paying all the shipping to have them look at it)...it now zeroes but BARELY, the FSP is pretty much as high as it can go....it can't move but it's annoying that i have to see below the "base" (where the threads start) of the FSP....oh well it works I'll just get some optics.
