How is the quality of the shaw barrels in the J&T kits? I am looking at a stainless bull 20 inch.

Not too bad...this is on a J&T Bull Barrel Kit.

Nice group Wingman!  At 100 yds I've had 2 touching many times (probably 30% of the time) but I always seem to put the 3rd shot about a 1/2" away.  All in all I'm very pleased with my DSC / J&T 20" SS 1/8 bull upper and "wallyworld" WIN white box 55gr..  The upper only has around 80 rounds down the tube and my best group to date can be hidden with a dime!  Pretty good for a handgun enthusiast eh?  Lately I've been itching to build a SPR but I can't bring myself to selling my Varmiter, knowing that for me there's not much room for improvement in the accuracy dept. (especially if I ever get around to reloading for this upper ;>).  My guess is that you'll be more than satisfied with your new barrel.  Good luck.

The group above was shot during load development and before the rifle was sighted in, after I settled on that load the sights were adjusted and further groups were shot, here's one with 5 shots instead of 3.

I had a 20” from them, Tony put it together for me. Like an idiot, I was pressing the CMP/NRA High Power rules and went with a 20” Shaw bull barrel exactly like the one you’re talking about.

I never heard the end of it so I decided to swap it out even though I was shooting great scores.

I found a guy with a DPMS Service Rifle upper and traded him. Before I did, I shot it on a flat top with Sierra 80 grain MKs. Because of their length, I single fed them. Average 100 yards groups were all well under ½”.

It will probably have an extended throat for the longer bullets. You might want to ask them about this if you’re going to be shooting store-bought plinking ammo because then you’d want a standard 223 chambering. If they do, post back here because I might just want another one myself. I wish I still had that $200 wonder.

If you haven’t dealt with J&T before, relax - you’re in good hands. They’re great to deal with.

Longer bullets like the 69's have longer ogives, and require a shorter throat if the ammo is loaded to kiss the lands and fit within the mag.

Doesn't Model 1 use E.R. Shaw barrels?  I was toying with the idea of picking up 6.8 SPC kit.
