I would say that if you go with some of the more common names, you'll be ok.
LAR, CMMG, RRA, BM, DPMS, MEGA, and there are more.  LAR Grizzly gets my vote, CMMG is also a very nice one.  I ck'd them out at a show, but didn't have the $$ at the time.  I got the LAR a few days latter at a local shop.  I looked at the RRA at the same place.

The LAR, and CMMG had a little better finish.  Btw I think Model1 sales gets there uppers from 2 different sources.  One of those is LAR, so it would match.  The CMMG Lower had the same high quality finish as the LAR and BM.  A CMMG lower is a good value and they usually have them in stock.

Kit guns have little value when compared to a pre-assembled weapon.  You will spend money that you will never regain.

RRA, and Stag seem to be hot and quality is very good.

If your building a stock gun, then don't buy a kit. If you buiding something you can't buy then a kit is OK.

Cost of tools will outweigh the savings.

Anytime I need a lower for a build, these are what I get.  Hard to beat the quality or the price.  I have two of them right now.

This is only true if you plan to sell your weapon.  I don't like "kits"  I prefer to buy the quality parts individually and assemble.  This is a little different than a "kit", but you are correct in that you will never get as much money for a "kit" gun.  When I obtain a weapon, I have no desire to sell it.  In the past I've done this, but I've learned that I eventually regreted selling any of them.  So know I don't sell them.

I am with you 100%, and I came to the same conclusions a long time ago.  However, he is asking about resale, so I felt it worthwhile to bring up that a parts gun/ kit gun isn't going to bring high resale just because it says Colt on the side.

Why does your lower look different than the one on their website?

I have 2 Rock Rivers and 2 Stags and am very happy with both. I see no reason to waste money on anything more expensive than those.

I have built 3 Mega lowers, and my friends have built a few more.  You just cant' beat the fit and finish.  If you choose to build a Mega upper, the fit will be perfect.  I have also built an Ameetec Arms lower and was very pleased with that one as well.

I use Ameetec also. They have a sale going on right now with their lowers. What may hold value for you is that their "LE Restricted" lowers are selling for only $115.00 right now.

Here's one more brand not mentioned: Lauer Custom Weaponry (LCW). I believe that they are made by Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT).  IMO they look awesome - consistent finish, mil-spec, and really nice logo too.  They are kinda pricey though for stripped lowers, but I think cheaper than a BM stripped lower.

RRA lowers are very high quality in tolerance and finish.
