I don't know if cutting the barrel that close to the gas port will give enough pressure to operate the action reliably.  If it was a good setup, manufacturers would make dissipators that way (cheaper) instead of with the lo-profile block and carbine length gas system.  I could be wrong, though, and am planning on building a dissipator style rifle myself soon.  Ill check back when some of the pros have weighed in.

Send it to ADCO, and they'll cut it down for you and open the gas port to make it operate properly.  This is a popular option, and there is no mystery or rocket science behind it.

In fact, DPMS makes a barrel already set up with the rifle system.  Readily available and very reliable from MidwayUSA or direct from DPMS.

I have cut down two 20" barrels to the" Dissy " config. using the original fsb. I removed the fsb and opened up the gas port hole a little at a time until the gun functioned and locked back properly. I finally ended up drilling the gas port holes with a #42 drill bit. Both of mine work fine.

so you are telling me i can use 1 gas system and i dont have to mod a diffrent gas block to put under the handguard...in the car config...so it will function properley?
