| Just received 2 pc rifle set, upper pc. appantly not drilled for indexing pins on bottom pc. Shouldn't there be 2 holes for these pins? Anyone know how tight a fit these are, I can drill them myself but would like to know what the fit should be. Waited over a week already and don't want return and wait again. |
Are these the 2 pc handguards? If you you don't do any indexing they fit in just like A2 handguards. |
| These are the 2 pc, the bottom has two indexing pins protuding at the front. There are no corosponding holes in the top hg so they can't mate up properly.I know I could do away with the pins but think it'll make for stronger set up if the recoil pressure is distributed to both peices. Even the plastic ones I'm replacing were indexed together. |
| Thanks for the info and pics, I'm now drilling a couple holes. I guess if I screw e'm up I'll use a parachute cord to wrap hold things together a bit. Maybe protect my hands from the heat anyway. Does the barrel heat cause you or your wife any problems using regular rail covers? Seems the air holes in yhm rails expose your hands to heat during rapid firing. I melted my c-5 plastic hg's and had to move my hands to the vented area of the hg's. A 120rnd. rapid fire stint doesn't seem unrealstic for a battle rifle. The C-5's that came on my cav arms upper couldn't take the heat. |
No problems with heat with either gun. The exposed part of the barrel and FSBs get hot. And take 10-15min to cool enough to stick in their cases though we do any rapid firing. Both are true light under the handguard M4 barrels. Hers is a DPMS non-chromed 16" M4 1x9 twist (with chromed chamber). Mines a 14.5" w/perm attached Phantom non-chromed 1x9. I don't know the manufacturer but they are a Gov't contractor. Long-Rifle-Tactical supplied it for me. |
| Well I did good on the holes, suprize myself sometimes. I opted for a tight fit and I'll get home and see if I can get it all together. I haven't ordered any rail covers yet but I'm thinking of ladder style and parachute cord wrap. What do y'all think. I've got 20" gov profile, I'll just wrap what's needed and leave the rest open. Thanks again |
| Does look like YHM stands behind their products. It's to late in the day to call now but I'll see about it tomorrow. As far as the hg set I drilled yesterday, they went on with out a hitch. Seem alright but I think what Paul from YHM is saying and from what I could gather from another post the front and rear inserts may have been switched around. I don't know for sure. For a plant manager to take the time to see a single end user gets what he paid for says a lot about this company. |
