hi, im about to start my first build, i am planning to use an A3 upper with a 16" barrel (not quite set on a lower at the moment). i am pretty new to the ar and was wondering if i could get some advise as to which type of sights to use with the flat top receiver since i will be short of funds for the optics for awhile after the initial build.

thanx in advance :)

Welcome to the boards.

Do you have an idea of what type of optics you plan to use on it in the future?  Do you know yet whether you want a folding or non-folding rear sight?

Once you make that decision, the best folding rear sights are the Troy folding BUIS and the different versions of the ARMS #40.  The best non-fodling rear sights are made by Larue and LMT.  If you want a non-folding BUIS and can find a good deal on a detachable carry handle, say a decent used one in teh equipment exchange, then that would work well for now as a normal carry handle and in the future if you add an Aimpoint or EOtech you can cut the carry handle portion off and use just the rear sight.  This is not an uncommon practice and is actually where the idea for the LMT rear sight came from.

The Troy BUIS is hard to find and is one of the more expensive units but it is an excellent design and very well made.  I just got mine a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with it.
