I just got off the phone to Model 1 Sales because the sights on the upper that came with my kit are so screwed up that I've got the front sight topped out and the rear sight bottomed out and it is still shooting 5" high at 100 yards. They're only about an hour or so away from me - but nope I can't just take it to them - I have to ship it. They also said that I have to ship it so it gets there by the end of the week because they're closing their IL facility and Moving to TX. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I am a little bit concerned with shipping it back to them when they're in the middle of a move because things might get lost - but the rifle is next to useless for what I want to use it for (CMP) with the sights the way they are.

If you are going to shoot CMP you may as well get rid of the rear sight and get a 1/4 x 1/4 rear sight.  Plus you will want to get a NM type front sight.  CMP matches are like NASCAR, stock cars aint stock!!

It is a 1/4x1/4 National Match Sight and National Match Front Sight.

Windage adjusts 1/4 MOA just fine but the elevation is so far off that I seriously doubt that just replacing the front sight will do.

Yeah, in Shotgun News, I think they already changed their address to BFE, Texas(I can't remember where).

You may need to just get another front sight base.  The rear sight is hard to screw up.  If the front is out of spec that is the easiest to replace.

Are you shooting a carbine? They don't have any clue that the sight towers are different between rifles and carbines.

Sucks about the gun.  Good for us IL people as we won't have to pay sales tax anymore, assuming they will still do internet orders.

What position is your front sight post?

You can go a long way down and not have any problems, just do not move the front sight post up past flush with the front sight assembly base.

Seriosly, where the fuck does M1S get these shitty parts? How could any machineist screw it up that bad, then pass QC, then get installed and shipped and noone notices?

The same way that a FSB / Barrel can be a good 1/16th out of true and still get shipped. That happened to me a few years ago from M1S. Of course a Varminter upper left Bushy with the FF doubled over on the barrel nut and cocked off to one side.

I can fix a lot of the brainfart problems that get turned out, I just hope that it doesn't delay the delivery on my kit I ordered. Funny there isn't anything on their webpage about the move. Maybe they realized that if they advertised the move then people would order from other vendors. I probably would have.

We should swap barrels, I have an M16A1 upper that shoots 4" low at 100 yards with teh sights bottomed out.
