I   have a new(1998) colt lower and  I am looking for the most accurate  off- the- shelf upper.  This is my first AR build.  As I am a rimfire benchrest shooter  I am only interested in driving tacks!  Looking at Rock River SS varmit 24"  flattop. Any opinions  on the  best quality, most accurate upper?

I would also look at the WhiteOakArmament Match Upper. I do not have one yet. I hope to in the near future. Folks seem to have a lot of good things to say about these.

I am curious to see what others recommend in this thread.

P.S. Oh yeah and welcome to our illness!!!

Look at the Olympic arms barrels, I have heard very very good things with them. Like 1/4" or better @ 100 yds is very very common! I don't have one, but it is on the tick list!!!http://www.olyarms.com/images/ultramatch/um1-angle.jpg

I built a tack driver on a Colt Match Target HBAR.  I stupidly started with an entire gun then dismatled.   this is the end result though

Most of the internals are JP, the externals are DPMS chrome, and the upper is a RRA 24".
this is a 10 shot  250 yd Target shot with 55gr nosler BT's

hope that helps
