I am thinking about buying a Ar15 by this summer and was told that i could build one myself for about half the price. I was wondering if anyone had complete list of parts i would need. I live in new jersey so i need something to be legal for there. My friend and me are planning on buying one together and if we could build one for half the price then maybe both of us will get our own. Looking to spend only around $500 ea on the rifle itself. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Well I guess I'll jump in. I doubt you will save much money but you will know your rifle. This is worth more than money and there is no substitute. You will get exactly the AR you want. AR's are easy to build and I have no interest in purchasing any rifle or pistol from a store. It should only take a couple of hours for your first AR build. You might have to check with some NJ guys about what is legal. I think you guys still have some kind of AWB so fixed stocks only for you. (Move to a free State ASAP.) That and couple of other changes and you may be OK. Bummer but no major problems. The posts at the top give all the info you need to build. No need to re-visit the issue. I built from info here and you can too. Build an AK and you may save some money depending on the tools you already own. They are more fun to build but are much harder. I have built both. I prefer to build AK's but shoot AR's. |
