Ok, I was wondering....If I buy a complete upper receiver, do I just need to put a barrel on it ? I mean, does a complete upper receiver have the barrel extension already installed ? I am trying to piece together all the tools I need and was wondering if I needed to get a berrel extension wrench too.
Thanks !

The barrel extension comes on the barrel.

You will need:

1.  complete upper
2.  barrel (should come with sight post, barrel nut, and extension pre fitted and installed)
3.  delta ring assembly (3 peices)
4.  handguards
5.  gas tube and rollpin
6.  upper reciever vise blocks
7.  DPMS or equivalent barrel wrench (no GI wrench please)
8.  snap ring pliers to install delta group
9.  hammer to tap in gas tube rollpin
10.  I use a folded paper (not foam) plate to put against my parts if I have to tap them together with a hammer

Yes, assuming it comes with bolt, carrier, and charging handle.

No.

No.

The barrel extension is mounted to the chamber end of the barrel.  It will come pre-assembled (in almost all cases) with whatever barrel you purchase.  Hopefully, someone will be able to post a picture. Or check the assembly manual.

Good luck

Ok,
Thanks for the replies. What I was gettin at is the whole headspace thing.
I have never seen just an upper by itself so thats why I was asking.  I was browsing prices on complete uppers and those XM 177 barrels.
I already have the vise block now it seems I just need a multi-tool. Probably should get a go/no-go guarge but I really don't see how you can adjust the headspace anyway if the barrel extension is already preinstalled.
Thanks !!
