Hey, i just got the lower half of my first Black Beast and i am REALLY happy! but i have 2 problems...one is the money and two is what should i make outta it? I have a Mega lower, Cal Multi, Model Gator. i've been thinking about either an XM177 or an SP1...im only going to go with an A2 style upper (no flat tops!), regular handguards (no rails) and black (MAYBE green) furnature. im open to any suggestions.

P.S. not doing a 6.8 or 9mm...

Why'd you bother with a Cal Multi if you aren't gonna do something fun/different?!

With your mind made up on A2 style, handguards, and color I think you already know what you want.  Go midlength and leave it simple.  You have no idea what you're missing in a flattop with LaRue BUIS.

lol good point about the Cal Multi but i didnt really KNOW i was getting a Multi Cal...didnt know about the Model Gator either...lol just bought it from Ameetec. I was thinking about getting a midlength but my brother is getting one so i wanted to have something different. and if i were to get a 20", i'd get an A1 style. and yeah i know im missing things with the flattop but for my first one, i want to have a handle.

You do know that carry handles for a flat top A-3 style upper are inexpensive and look and work just like an A2 style right?  Thats the route I went for my first build btw, A3 upper, 20" barrel and carry handle.

Go to a gun show and buy a used beat up one until you can scrape the $$ together to build it exactly how you want.

My experience: I am building #4 piece meal.  I didn't think I had the cash until I stopped eating out.  It took me almost a year, but I have a bushy CAR with handle, ARMS SIR, HK grip, 3-point sling, and EOTECH.  Glad I waited.  My lower is a Vulcan, parts kit from Del-Ton.  I recommend Del-Ton for everything.  very good prices and service.  I bought a bushy and colt SP1 from the dealer complete.  Then I made the one above.  Now I am working on an Oly Titanium.

My first is due to be done in March (waiting on the upper) and will consist of:

16" midlength 1:7 twist 4150 steel barrel "giff special"
LMT Upper Receiver w/ M4 Feed Ramps
LMT M16 Standard Bolt Carrier Group
PRI Gasbuster charging handle
Phantom YHM-5C2 Flash Suppressor
Stag Arms lower with Stag Arms parts and Vltor stock

And my second (with a little luck) will be my '04 CavArms SEBR MkII buildup, a 16" midlength Cavalry Arms upper with the barrel sent to ADCO to be turned down.  Should be fun.

Being "different" comes after overall versatility and reliability and I am all about midlength.

i dont really feel like spending $80 extra for something i can get for free im starting to lean towards the 14" M4 with the 2 inch welded phantom flashider from Model 1 but im not sure. $485 for it...im also still thinking about the XM177....lol this is a hard decision but i have a lot of time to make it...sadly

P.S. i might get some pics of my lower on here soon

If you are going to do that get the 14.7 inch RRA barrel with a permanant A2 FH from Pete at Legal Transfers on the EE.  It is noticeably shorter and looks authentic.

Thanks, good thing the pic doensn't show all the details because it's actually not real pretty, lot's of blemishes, but it really runs well. This was my first, and she ain't going nowhere! I'll be before I give this one up

Coincidentally, I got the A2 upper kit on a coin toss

I couldn't decide whether or not I wanted the flattop (this was before I found this site) so before I picked up the phone to order I flipped a coin, and it landed on heads. The rest is history.

Yep, but they have since upped their prices by $10 or $20 per kit. I added an Aluminum 4 pos stock to the kit and a stock wrench, and when shipping was figured in, I think it was about $545-$550. That kinda sucks because I'm only about 80 miles away from them, I would have gone and picked the bastard up if I would have known it would cost that much. Oh well, all I know is I can hit a 4' X 18" water cooler at 400yds sitting with it. HARD TO DO! Especially since the front site post was about twice as wide as the water cooler

heh thats nice...i think if i want to spend 545-550, i'll get it from Model 1 with an M4 stock..even THAT will be cheaper...even if i got green furnature and an M4 stock, it would be cheaper...i think i'll go with Model 1

do you know this from expirience? i thought the muzzle brake with the two big holes on each side and 2 small ones on top did that...:P plus, how much velocity can i lose with 2" less barrel? may be a stupid question but it's not like i'll be shooting at a quarter at 600 yards anytime soon...most'll probably be 200 yards...

ETA: i got a 9mm question...if i were to buy a 9mm upper, would i have to change the lower parts? cause i've been thinking about getting a 9mm upper AFTER the 5.56 and possibly an AK74 parts kit

An M4 style would be a good 2nd choice, but the stock 20" would be my 1st choice.

Better yet, the 20" GM, *AND* an M4. It's habit forming.

HA! i dont even have enough money for one yet! i think what im gonna do is get a 14.5" M4 w/ Phantom flashider first and then somewhere down the road, get an A2 or A1..
2/26/2005 4:10:40 PM EDT

oh crap...im starting to think about an AK74 first...it'd be a LOT less than an AR and i'd be able to get it before the AR...it'd be $250 approx. thats for a kit, sling, bayonet, cleaning kit, oil bottle and maybe 30 mag...thats the kit from falfiles.com for $189.95 + a $60 reciever...then i'd wait a lil while for the AR...hmmmm....i'll make another thread with a poll

Ive had the lower for over a year now. I traded a WASR for the upper (brand new) about 1 month ago i think. It works great. No problems so far and i run wolf through it all say. Its a 16". Im thinking about adding a phantom pretty soon. I just bought an OKO sight with the sc4 cover on the EE for $140 and i have a light and Vertical grip to add on it as well. I cant wait. Everything but the lower was purchased on the EE. I just got this upper but i had one of M1S 14.5 m4 with phantom for a long time and it worked great also, i just got rid of it cause i wanted chrome lined.
