After many years of owning various manufactured weapons I want to build me an AR-15. where do I start? Can anyone reccommend any good Internet resources or books to bring me up to speed? Will I need a lot of specialized tools to build one? All help greatly apprecciated |

Welcome. Tools are minimal. Look for how to guides at the top of this forum. You will need a striped lower receiver (75-200 bucks) and a kit or the pieces that would be in a kit. My suggestion is to read up here:www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=202467 and look for a lower receiver from Mega, Superior, Ameetec, Stag or Rock River from someone selling them off the EE board www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=7&f=21 Then look into kits from Del Ton, J&T, Model 1 (read up on all the vendors first, some dont always have the best rep), or contact someone like RB Precision to put a parts kit together for you (I like RB for their customer service). People here often can get their guns together in about 15 minutes, newbies tend to take an hr. Expect for a bargain lower and kit to run about $600. You need to decide what you want first. Check out the kit mfgrs webpages for ideas... Good luck. -Dave |
