I just tried out my newly built m4 (look-alike).
It works fine except for one thing: when the last round is fired, the bolt locks back bye bot on the bolt-face,  but on the carrier.

So it appears to be just short-cycling. Repeatable, every time.

This is with PMP 223 ammo, which isn't the hotest load around, and my guess is that with military loads it will work just fine.

My 20" Colt A2 cycles fine on this ammo.

On the M4, I get the impression that  the spring tension is higher than on the A2 - is this normal??

The stock is a Magpul M93A, so the buffer tube is a known good make.

I do have another CAR spring, it looks to be about 1/4" shorter than the one I used (both are new).
I  might install that one and see if it makes any difference.

Anyone have any ideas???

Shoot hot ammo... clean and lube per the TM with CLP, no grease.  Break it in with a few hundred rounds.

Then check back.
