I just purchased an upper from J&T: Complete 16" CAR Kit Post-ban or Pre-ban: Pre-ban HBAR A-2 or Flat-top Upper: Flat-top Upper When I was looking in the Barrel I found an obstruction that a cleaning patch will not remove, it looks to be a bur in the rifling or some residue leftover from the manufacture of the barrel? I emailed J&T and am waiting to hear back. Has anyone had this problem? I tried a brass cleaning brush but it would not come out, and a cleaning patch catches on it. Any Ideas? Thanks |
It’s not big, and yes I looked again and it appears to be the gas port opening. This should be smooth with no part visible above the rifling, correct? I am sure it would mar the bullet as it passes as the cleaning patch hangs on it. It has a small burr that just sticks above the rifling. |

I tried to get a picture, but it’s not easy. You cab see the gas port protruding although a bit blurry, is this normal? http://www.nostrings.org/cb4/Deb/109_0910.jpg |

http://www.nostrings.org/cb4/Deb/109_0913.jpg I googled it and found that it can have a burr that resulted from drilling the gas port. How big a bur is safe? What about accuracy? |
This my first gas port style rifle, and I thought it would throw off the accuracy. Thanks looks like it is a non-issue. |
| Ive done 6 complete builds now and everyone of them had the same bur around the gas port hole. Just shoot it out and youll never see it again. There so thin you could probably scrape it off with your finger nail if you could get your finger in there, but since you cant, the the bullets do the work for you. |
| I haven't looked at the bore since I shot it, but before it was shot it looked as big as a house! Since a cleaning jag and patch would go through it, I figured it would be OK, that group shown above was the very first time that rifle was shot. You could feel the snag, but the jag would pass, it was more pronounced going one way than the other. |
