Has anyone worked with this material before?
I am wanting to form a cheek pad using kevlar.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. THX

I am fabricating a 2 seat homebuilt airplane out of fiberglass, and doing it from scratch. I have repaired wheel pants in areas where steel fasteners have rubbed through the glass, and used Kevlar for its high abrasion resistence there.

What an unmitigated pain in the butt! It is tough to cut (even with the right scissors), it remains opaque even when wet out so you can not see if it is indeed wet through and bubble free, and impossible to sand the edges, etc.

The recomended ways to get around these issues are to use a skin layer of fiberglass cloth, and glass aorund the edges, that way any sanding is done on glass... For a checkpiece, why bother? The easy way is to glue down a layer of plastic foam using dry micro, shape it until it is perfect, and cover with two plies of glass cloth, then sand and paint.
