I am looking to build my first AR. I have a complete RRA lower and was looking to buy a LMT M4 upper, but can't find any available. I see that Model 1 has M4 uppers with chrome lined bore and chamber. Are these quality uppers? Also the twist is 1/9, is that now the military spec? thanks for helping out a new guy.  mike

I haven't gotten anything bad from Model 1, and I've built two.  My gas block was misaligned, but that was easy to fix, and they appear to have an oxide coating that needs to be cleaned off.  Others will give you other opinions, but like I said, my experience has been good.

And, obtw, I've received one of my kits in less than a day, and the other in four days, and both are very, very accurate guns.

Welcome to the boards Mike
I have a Model 1 M4 uppers and honestly, it runs just as good as my bushy. I run my guns way way more then i should between cleanings and it still runs just fine. The only problem i did have is that it didnt like to spit out Wolf ammo for the first few hundred rounds. But that was also my bad for shootin wolf ammo to begin with. Its a pretty good setup. Got mine quick too, within 4 days i think. I also used my own bolt, bolt carrier and charging handle and that is where alot of people here have problems with M1S.... Get it, you should like it.

I just ordered a Model 1 M4 kit. Do you know who makes the barrel??

Whats the problem with the bolt carrier & handle??

I don't think their prices are all that great on uppers. Their kits seem pretty cheap. I bet by the time you get a Model 1 M4 upper with a chrome lined barrel and stuff you could get a CMMG for the same price. I paid $499 for my CMMG upper and it is chrome lined, 1/7 twist and 4150 steel.

I just ordered a Model 1 M4 kit today. 16" M4 1:9 barrel chrome lined with A2 suppressor & m4 handguards. Flat top receiver and collapsable m4 stock for $520+shipping.

A chrome lined 1:9 16" upper with A2 or flat upper along with an A2 hider & m4 handguards runs $375 from Model 1 (no bolt or charging handle).

$340 for the same non-chromed.

There barrel's are maid by Shaw.

Don't now about carrier & handle problems?

Have built a few, with no problems, and would buy from them again.

Well if you take a Model 1 upper and add the bolt and charging handle to the $375 you would be spending $495. For around $5 more I'd take CMMG over Model 1 no questions asked. The price of $340 is non-chrome lined.

Exactly, the upper prices make no sense. A M4 kit is $520, but their complete upper is $495. For $25 more you somehow get the LPK and stock both, something isn't right.

I've had good luck with Model 1 too. Only annoyance is that they ship with A1 (round) front sight posts instead of the A2(square) unit... no idea why, just ask for the A2 and you are good to go.

FYI, and without making any relative value judgements:

Model 1 16" M4 chrome-lined upper w/B/BC/CH is $460
CMMG 16" M4 chrome-lined upper w/B/BC/CH is $500

CMMG 16" M4 chrome-lined upper w/B/BC/CH is $500  4150 barrel steel with 1/7 twist

Added info is in blue. I like my CMMG upper and wouldn't use anyone elses uppers but thiers. Thanks Arvin

i was looking to get an upper this week.  you guys have a webstie or something for that cmmg company?  Also i waswondering what the difference is between the 1/9 twist and the 1/7 twist?  You can fire the same ammo through both right?  Or do specific rounds have a certain twist preferences?

The $460 price listed for Model 1 is non-chrome lined. The chrome lined barrel upper is $495.

Model 1 16" M4 chrome-lined upper w/B/BC/CH is $495 and is 1/9 twist 4140 steel.
CMMG 16" M4 chrome-lined upper w/B/BC/CH is $499 and is 1/7 twist 4150 steel.

cmmg is a much better deal all the way around.

Here's the link to the Model 1 upper that is $495.

You can fire standard 55-62 grain with either one. You probably wouldn't want a 1/7 twist for much below 55 grain like 45 grain. The 1/7 twist is good up 70+ grain.

Here is a link to CMMG.

Can you fire the higher grain bullets with a 1/9 twist.  Are there ay advantages of getting a 1/7 over a 1/9?

After adding the price of a bolt group and handle to the Model one M4 Chrome lined uppper.  IT is still $40. cheaper than the same gear from CMMG. Help a new guy understand what I get for my extra $40. Who makes there barrels? are they a military contractor?  thanks for your kind responses.  Mike

Generally speaking, you get a better product from CMMG.  There is mixed results with Model 1, with alot of success and a fair amount of otherwise.  The balance of success to otherwise is better with CMMG products.  In the big scheme of things, $40 is a small price to pay for a better product, but it's your wallet, so you must decide for yourself what that $40 is worth to you.

The price difference is $4 not $40. A Model 1 M4 chrome-lined barreled upper is $375, for the bolt, bolt carrier and charge handle Model 1 charges $120 more. That's $495 total. For the bolt and bolt carrier only it's $85, that doesn't include the charge handle.

CMMG is $499 total, that includes the chrome-line barrel upper, bolt, bolt carrier and charge handle, plus the barrel is 4150 steel and 1/7 twist.

CMMG  is a better deal for $75 more, but they are only $4 more. I'm not knocking Model 1, but CMMG and Model 1 aren't even in the same league.

Who is the supplier for CMMG, I read someone post that they are DPMS? If that is the case I would rather pass on the DPMS.

Uhhh...DPMS supplies their bolt, and bolt carriers and I believe that's it, not their barrels anymore. I'd take DPMS over Model 1 no questions asked as well. CMMG does use some DPMS parts like I said as far as the bolt and carrier are concerned, but CMMG sources the parts themselves. CMMG seems to have better QC than DPMS.

CMMG and DPMS both kick Model 1's ass.

Without question that is God's honest truth, I would consider going better than DPMS but certainly never down to Model 1 or M&A.

Its only $85 for a B&BC and charging handle. Price, $460. The chrome B&BC and CH is $120. But still go with the CMMG. I have been looking for a new rifle and the guys on this board have convinced me to go with the cmmg 1/7.

No, you're wrong - the cost of the bolt carrier group and charging handle is $85, making the total price of the complete M4 upper $460, as others have already stated.

You could have discovered this yourself from Model1's website in less time than it took for you to post incorrect information on this forum.

OK, actually $120 is for a chrome bolt carrier $85 for non, no need to be dick about it...maybe you work for Model 1. But actually I'm not really wrong because most CMMG uppers come with a chrome bolt carrier (mine did) so actually a comparable Model 1 upper is $375 plus $120 for a chrome bolt carrier for a total of $495.

Anyway, I don't give a shit if it's $495 or $460, I'd still go with CMMG over Model 1.
