OK, this has been done to death, but I want to play too.  I have been doing some research and here's my list with some questions too:

1)  Vulcan Armament Lower
and Upper

2) Ace Ultra Lite Stock AR-UL-E

3) Bushmaster Superlight 16" A BBL-16SLA

4) Hiperform Ultra Light Shorty Carbon Handguard

5) PRI .625 Flip Up Front Site

6) KAC 300M BUIS Pic

Questions:

1) Is the vulcan with an ace ultralite lighter than a cav arms lower or not?
2) Who can lighten up a bolt carrier to the point that it will still function properly with a Wolff Gunsprings reduced power spring?
3) Where can I get an all plastic/nylon buffer?

Any suggestions taken gladly.

I would guess the weight of the ACE/Vulcan to be about the same as the Cav Arms, approx 27oz.
Check out ar15barrels.com for a lighter barrel- .550 dia.
I've heard nothing good about the Vulcan Carbon fiber upper.  I plan to use a Les Baer slick side upper for my build.  You might consider a JP aluminum carrier, although I believe you will lose some reliablility.  You may be OK if you stay with one particular load however.  Just my 2 cents.  Check out the Maryland ar15 shooters site they have a very extensive weight table.

you know, you could save yourself a lot of money if you used the parts that come with some of the gear your looking at. For example, the bushy barrell comes with both the front sight and the hand guards? if you plan on using a flip up sight, your also going to have to plan on buying a new gas block to mount it on. Granted that the Carbon fiber hand guards are only a couple of ounces less.. the cost just isn't worth it. plus carbon fiber cracks reeeeaaallllllyyyyy easy. trust me. I've put more carbon fiber stuff on motorcycles then it seems phesable. I've dropped carbon fiber pipes from chest height and broken them. And keep looking for the flip up rear sights. i've seen them lower than $150.

right now your looking at around $922 plus shipping, ffl transfer fees, and (if you don't do it yourself) assembly, plus upper parts kit, plus lower parts kit.....

don't get me wrong. it's a nice setup, i just think you can achieve the same thing for less. but hey... if you got it, flaunt it.

edit... forgot something. your going to have to get your buffer and buffer spring too...

Thanks guys, I've heard good things about the vulcan carbon/aramid lower and nothing good or bad about the upper, but the upper does not have the port door or forward assist.  The JP aluminum carrier is for barrels of a minimum length of 20" though I may be able to tinker with springs, buffers and adjustable gas tubes enough to make it work.  The PRI unit is a gas block with integral flip up sight, but is $187.50.  I may be better off with a complete bushy upper on a cav arms lower.  Which I could modify with a PRI front and light weight free float to shave off a few more onces.
