Anyone use Alumahyde on their AR's? Seems like a simple process. How is the durability and such? -tnr, MBD |

gunkote is also a very thin and optically flat coating....does NOT look like paint. THe process is simple enough, given the correct equipment.. We use a cheap airbrush and toaster oven to bake it. (all parts of an AR will fit in a toaster oven (excluding the barrel)...just in case you were wondering. works great. I do not have any experience with alumahyde however. |
Pics: Mag is regular parkerization. Upper and lower have been applied with Alumahyde II. Bottom has had some CLP applied to it. Top is still untouched. Trigger, bolt, and rear sight are blued..pending a range trip to test the functionality of that 50 rounder, the mag, trigger, and sight will be painted.  Here's a closer pic. You can see there's no gloss at all on the top, and a very dull glow from the CLP applied lower. Jsut liek any parked AR receiver... very dull, with a bit different shade once oil or CLP's been applied. |
