When installing a gas block has anyone found it necessary to back off just a bit towards the muzzle to compensate for the lack of a handguard cap? I brought my new build to the range today, it didnt cycle well. I loosened the screws, realigned, and tightened back up, and things went much better. I was shooting some crappy UMC that I'd had for a year or so, so that could explain a few things also.

yeah cause the lack of handguard cap means there is no spacer to line up with and when you mount it angainst the shoulder you misalign the gas port cutting some of the flow off.

Yes, I had a problem installing a KAC low profile gas block where I had to back it off a little from the shoulder to get proper function.

I installed it right up against the shoulder initially. Since I backed it off she runs great. I didnt think about that just because most of the time when gas blocks are installed there is no handguard cap, it does happen.

LaRue Tactical Low-Profile Gas Block

If anyone is in need of a low-profile gas block and does not want to worry about a possible gas port alignment problem they should give LaRues new gas block a look? I will be using one of these with my new LT 9.0 handguard and was told by Mark that the lack of a handguard cap was considered in the placement of the gas port and that it is designed to be placed against the barrels gas block shoulder.
