I’m putting together my first AR.

I ordered a RRA lower, NM trigger, Hogue grip, 6-position stock, all green: http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0114RRA&storeid=1&image=lwrrcvr.gif&CFID=5414788&CFTOKEN=97738817&jsessionid=0630caa039da$3F$00$E

I’m thinking real hard about the MGI QCB upper: http://www.mgimilitary.com/qcb.htm

Initially I’m buying a 1/7 M-4 barrel and, later, I’ll probably get some kind of 20” long-range match barrel.

Thus, right now I’ll need a complete bolt/carrier group and charging handle.  I’ve seen these with several different finishes on them.  Some look like stainless; others have a “gold” color to them. Still others are standard black.  What’s the difference between these finishes and does it matter if they are working in a chrome-lined chamber or not?  Do the bolt and the carrier have to be the same finish?

I’d appreciate your wisdom/comments on what I’m doing, but particularly on barrels, bolts, carriers, charging handles and finishes.  Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd get a colt bolt. They are individually MP tested and stamped.
A bolt carrier like the RRA "enhanced" will do the trick (parked/black). The 'gold' bolt carriers are TIN coated, not needed IMHO.
Charging handle=RRA, or you could pay more for a Bushmaster.....

Skip any fancy finished on bolts and carriers.  Just get a good basic one.  Colt is probably the "best" bolt because of the reason listed above, and their finish is really above the others.  LMT and LMT enhanced are really nice, but also $$$.

That being said, my preference is quality parts at the lowest prices, and that makes the RRA "enhanced" bolt/carriers the best out there for my budget.
