After "building" my first two rifles on a pair of Stag lowers,(best looking lower I ever seen on an AR so far!...I'm even starting to dig the deer picture lol) I decided I'd like to try a custom build(might even etch myself a custom logo having
I'm really interested in the National Ordnance forged lowers, but their site is rather vague about which operations are still left to complete the "JFM" and "HPS" lowers. I searched here, and have found that the HPS would require the FC pocket to be milled out a tad in addition to the drilling/tapping since a few of the holes come pre-drilled. The pocket shouldn't be too touch trouble to mill out, but I'd rather not have to do any milling if possible. Has anyone used the JFM receiver? I'd like to know if anything other than drilling and tapping holes is required? This one looks a lot like the one Scott used to sell through the CNC Gunsmithing site- which was a drill/tap only affair.

btw; I'd like to thank QCMGR for the fantastic post on building the KT-15. I'd like to try one of those myself, but I'm afraid I'd bugger up the mag catch slot.

HPS receivers come with the front pivot pin hole and the trigger guard holes drilled and scalloped, and the entire receiver bead blasted.  JLM lacks the mentioned features.

As far as I'm concerned they ALL require the FC pocket to be milled out.  So I would suggest a HPS receiver which would save you some time and effort.

FC pocket Millings are very easy to do, in fact in my opinion they're easier than drilling the pivot pin and the trigger take down hole scallop.

I would take a look at the CNC gunsmithing site. Justin not only sells a great (and cheap) jig but also has some 80% lowers. I bought 2 from Scott and both of them were excellent. All the major work was done and all that was left to do is drill/tap buffer tube area and drill fire control/detent holes. Overall Scott's lowers were fantastic. They are currently out of stock but I am sure you can email him and see when they would be available.

ditto, I have both: HPS and Scott's lowers. Both are nice quality. Maybe less work on HPS one but Scott's are cheaper :)

Thanks for the replies. I was in the process of ordering one of Scott's, since I already have the CNC jig,(best deal out there on a jig) but as you noted, Scott's lowers were out of stock. hat
