I need to know if all AR upper receiver threads (the ones that receive the barrel nut) are cut in the same location. That is, do the threads all start in the same spot? If the manufacturing process had the threads being cut while the upper was indexed in a lathe prior to, or after, another operation, then they would be cut the same way every time. However, do all companies do this? Does the milspec call for it? Does it even happen? |

No, the threads do not start at any specific location. The M16A2 product function specification makes no reference to the barrel nut threads whatsoever. The government M16A2 upper receiver drawing has no callout regarding any specific starting place for the threads. If two receivers were ever exactly alike it would be pure luck. |
