If by too small you mean the diameter, I'd take the pin you've got to the hardware store and get the next diameter up.  You might need to get a longer pin than you need, but grinding off the excess length is a 2-3 minute job.  If you do have to go with a thicker pin, make sure that the hold open catch itself has a hole large enough so that the catch slips over it w/no friction.

On the other hand, if by "too small" you mean that the pin is shorter than the total length of the hole in the reciever, don't sweat it. It's supposed to br shorter.  Just so  it's long enough to extend out on each side of the hold open piece, it's long enough.  Just tap it in from the rear side, until the edge of the pin is slightly inside the hole.

Its way to small in diameter, I just find this a little strange.

IMHO, roll pins come in so many shapes and sizes, I don't see as being too far fetched that someone may have accidently placed the wrong pin in your LPK - or maybe the supplier who supplied the roll pins to DPMS accidently slipped a couple wrong sized pins in the box of 100 they sent and the LPK packer just grabbed whatever was from the box and put in your kit.

That is why I keep spare small parts around.  They have paid for themselves many times over.
