i am starting my first ar build up, i have a rock river arms striped lower reciever with a dmps lower kit on the way. right now i am working to buy a completed upper reciever prefrebly a flat top 24" bull barrel. i want to build the best accurate rifle possible so any suggestion on which units 650 dollars or cheaper. Also this won't be my last so i would like to know what would be the best componets for the next build. |
Olympic Arms 'Ultramatch' upper since you want a flattop... The things you specifically need are a free-float tube and a STAINLESS (*not* chrome-lined) barrel. However, IMHO an A2-style is a better 'first' upper... If you go A2 style and want the best accuracy, get anybody's DCM or 'National Match' upper (these are used for service rifle competition, which means they have to be A2 style (no scope rail), however they are the most accurate iron-sight-only upper you can get, and you *can* add a scope via carry-handle or gooseneck mount)... I'm partial to Olympic Arms, as IMHO there's no advantage of the other main-line AR makers in terms of uppers, and the 'next leve' is a custom-shop unit (like from White Oak Armaments). THere's no need to pay for a name on an upper, unless you're paying for WOA or similar... |
| Well, ok. I would get a plinker first and then move up...gives you some time to familiarize yourself with the system and learn all the little accurizing quirks. I wouldn't recommend a 24"er though, it's a little long and clumsy. Go with a 20". the velocity and accuracy gain from 20" to 24" is very negligible compared to the gain from 16" to 20", not to mention the gain from 14.5" to 16". 20" is plenty gun for what you are looking to do. |
