I am looking for a smooth gas block for a Oly SUM bull barrel.  Brownell's has a GB systems that says it is for a .940 barrel.  I measured mine with a caliper and get .936 does anyone know if this will work? Seems like .940 is a odd size compaired to the other brands listed.  Could this be a mistake?  I cant find a web site or phone number for GB Systems.  Does anyone have one? Can you tell me if it is black?

Brian, I just built an upper with an OLY SUM barrel...it's .750 at the gas block, and thicker from there to the breach end.

Yankee Hill makes a very nice bolt on gas block called the Specter...it looks like the DPMS gas blocks...it's not railed, and is pretty low profile.  I'd shoot you a pic, but the carbine it's on has a full length tube, so you can't see it.

Armalite and RRA make railed gas blocks...I'm using the Armalite on my SUM barrel since I had one sitting in a drawer.  It doesn't cover the area that shows once you pull the FSB off...you can see it at the extreme right edge of this pic..it's the shiny silver bit:

Model 1 also has a railed gas block, but it weighs a ton...I've got one, but haven't used it on anything because of the weight.  It's about twice the size of the one in the pic.

I know the Yankee Hill combo flip up sight/gas block will cover this area...I've got that on another rifle.  I'm *pretty* sure the the YHM Specter block does cover this as well, but I'm not 100% certain.  I could take a peek when I get home tonight if you need me to.

If you don't mind the cosmetic aspect of that area showing, then any standard .750 gas block will work.
