How does the bi pod attach to the stock A2 handguards?

Is there a swivel stud that attaches to one of the holes underneath the hand guard? If so where can I obtain one?

You assume correct. Harris makes one that screws on via a plate you insert inside the guard under the heat sheild. I picked mine up for about $6 at a show a few months back.

I got one I'll sell ya! Ordered from Cabela's about 2 months ago. Paid $10 plus shipping (with my bipod). Make me an offer.

Thanks for the info. I just picked one up yesterday. These bi pods also make it easier to clean the barrels as they just stand up on their own. I picked up a little jig from Fulton Armory that locks the upper and lower in an open position so you can slide the carrier out, slide your chamber/bore guide in and clean your rifle as it stands on it's own. One of these days I will have to learn how to post pics
