I have an a2 on my carbine and just bought a vortex.  I have a vise, but no blocks.  Can I just put a cloth around the barrel and tighten the vise to change them out?  Better or worse to put the FSB in the vise?

A heavy cloth or leather belt around the barrel should do nicely. Just a gut feeling, but try to keep the FSB out of the vise. [;)]
