What's the best source for mil-spec 14.5" barrels?
Thanks, E.

I'm looking at this one.  Mil-spec with permanently attatched IZZY break to make it a legal 16" non-NFA barrel.

I've got 2 Bushmasters like the one pictured above, but w/permantley attached phantom flash suppressors. Mine are 1/9 twist, I believe real M4's are 1/7. Bushmaster will attach a brake or flash suppressor for free as long as you buy it from them and will end up being legal length.

Bushmaster, preban, 14.5", chrome lined, M4 profile, 1/7 twist.

Just shave the sides of the bayo lug off.  It wiil LOOK like it is there but will be "non-functional".  Have a brake perm attatched and you are done.

$195.00 + $9.00 s&h.

I just got mine on the 22nd and it looks like it should kick ass!  They are out of the 1/9 twist but still have plenty of the 1/7.

What's the difference in 1/7 and 1/9 14.5 bbl?  Any FPS reduction from going to 1/9 twist?  I know 1/7 burns out faster but if it gives better velocity or accuracy I'd go that route.

The faster twist is needed to stabilize the heavier bullets (68 gr + ).  To increase the weight of a bullet you do one of two things:  Increase the diameter or increase the lenght.  Since you obviously cannot increase the diameter and still have it (bullet) fit down the barrel, you have to make it longer.  Then in order to keep it stable in flight you have to put a faster spin on it.  Kind of like a football.

I don't see how a tighter twist can decrease the velocity.

You could say a 1/7 twist will give you better accuracy ONLY if you are firing the heavier bullets.  The heavier bullets will probably "stay the course" better than a lighter gr.  Wind???  But since you are talking 14.5" anyway, your accuracy will not reach out as the 16" or 20" bbl will.  An M4 is a CQB weapon.  Not a "reach out and touch someone".

As far as "burning out faster", that will be more determined by your rate of fire. (How fast you shoot)  You can also say that by lowering the air pressure in your car's tires by ONE PSI will decrease tire life and lead to poor handling.  There are a lot of other things to worry about before you loose sleep over a 1/7 "burnig out" faster than a 1/9.
