Hi everyone, I am completing my first build, and have a question about the hammer spring.  I am following the directions that say to install the spring on the hammer with the feet of the spring pointing rearward away from the hammer, and the shoulder of the spring on the back of the hammer.  But on my spring, the should is on the front.  The feet of the spring face rearward away from the hammer, but the shoulder is on the front of the hammer.  Is there something wrong with the spring, or is that correct?  According to the instructions, thats incorrect.  Also need to figure a way to get that pivot detent in there. Pain in the ass.  Thanks for the help

The shoulder is on the back of the hammer and the legs extend to the rear, have you looked at this picture?

Yeah, I printed those out, and am using them.  So far so good. Ive got the trigger group in, bolt catch, trigger guard, mag catch and now Im working on the hammer.  The spring is really strong, which is making it difficult to install for me.  The shoulder and legs dont form as much of an angle as in that picture, its more of a straight line between the two.  I'll get it eventually.  Any tricks  with the pivot deten?

The pivot pin detent can be one of the trickiest to do, make sure the hole is deep enough, sometimes you might have to trim the spring a little bit.  If you have a 1/4" dowel it seems to help retain the detent till you get the pivot pin in place.  When trying to install the pivot pin detent, do it inside of a clear plastic bag, they have a tendency to go ballistic, the bag keeps them from getting lost.

Hey thanks for the bag tip, I will definately find one of those.  The pivot pin detent spring sits flush with the top of the hole it sits in, Im guessing thats deep enough?  I'll try this again once I find a bag.

I got the hammer installed now, and it seems to work fine, except when it is caught by the disconnector.  When it is caught by the trigger, it pivots forwad when I pull the trigger, but when it is caugh by the disconnector, and I pull the trigger, it does not go forward.  At least not every time. Anybody have an idea what I did wrong?  Also, the instructions say that the selector should click into place when moving from fire to safe, and vice versa, but mine does not.  I checked the function of it, and it works fine, but is very loose in the receiver and does not click into place.  Not sure what the problem would be there.

I think the disconnector and hammer seem to be working fine now. Maybe they just need to be worked in a bit.  It seems reliable now.  Only problem is the selector being loose. When I put the selector detent in place, it was tight in its hole as in it didnt move at all, is that normal, or should it be more loose and move freely in its hole?

This selector detent is pissing me off!  Its practically welded to the receiver, it wont budge at all.  And as a result, my selector is sloppy....it doesnt click when you select fire and safe, it just moves freely, like when you slip it into the receiver with no detent.  I dont know what to do with the stupid thing.  Im really wishing I just bought a complete lower already assembled.

The selector detent pin is probably stuck, the hole it goes thru might be under sized or there might be some debris in there.  Remove the selector, and take a drill bit and run it thru the hole, just use your fingers for this, no drill.  Your selector probably won't work right till the pin fits properly in its place, also make a note that you can only switch to safe when the hammer is cocked.

For some reason, I am unable to remove the selector.  Is the detent keeping it in?  Will using the drill bit by hand easily free the detent that is stuck?  Its really in there.

Got it out!   Inside the hole where the detent goes it is like the chamber of a barrel, there is a groove in there like where the round stops in a chamber.  Is it possible the detent is oversized?

There's a little shoulder on the detent pin, like the rim of a cartridge, but anything below that stop it should be free to move in and out, so take a look and see what you think, don't reinstall the selector till the pin's working right, you can see how much trouble it can be to get out!

Old rule of thumb, always modify the cheapest part first.

I think I'll order a new detent.  And if that doesnt fix it, I dont really know what to do..I dont feel comfortable drilling out the hole myself.  So, the rim on the detent is supposed to stop on the stop inside the hole?  Mine is definately tight in the hole.  I ordered a new one from brownells, along witha tool to install the pivot pin detent.  What should I do if the new detent is still tight?

Have you taken a drill bit in your fingers and deburred the hole it goes in?

I havent, but if the new detent still doesnt fit, that is what I will do.  Hey, I really appreciate all your help!
