Are there any gas piston uppers available for the AR15/M16's? Or are there any coversions available for an existing  upper?

I have never heard of a gas piston upper for an AR, I know Robinson Arms makes a gas piston rifle based on the AR principle, but it is a totally different rifle.  LAR makes an upper that is operated with springs located forward of the carrier, eliminating the receiver extension, buffer and tube on the lower.  Sorry that is all I have heard of.

Years ago there was an atricle written in Firepower Magazine about an Gas piston conversion for an AR under the name of Rhino conversion. I am also interested in the LAR conversion you are taliking about do you know if there is a website for LAR?

Probably not what you are looking for, but Oly Arms makes a gas piston recoil tube that is a direct replacement unit.

I read a post a day or so ago where one guy talked about having a pre-ban CAR-15 with the Rhino system, and he indicated it used a gas piston.

I could swear that, about three years ago, Brownell's used to offer a very expenseive upper and conversion unit in their catalog that worked off a piston.
