HAS ANYONE TRIED TO THREAD THEIR OWN AR BARREL TO MOUNT A MUZZLE BRAKE . OR IS IT WISE TO HAVE GUNSMITH DO IT

I wouldn't do it without a lathe. I guesssince you are asking this question, you don't have a lathe and know how to single point thread. [;D]

Seriously, this not the type of a job that you can just run a threading die down the tube. You need to remove a portion of the diameter of the barrel material and then rethread per the COMPENSATOR manufacturer's recommendation.  Put that COMPENSATOR on crocked and you will ruin you barrel at the very least.  Take it to a 'smth.

IF your barrel is the correct OD and IF you have a die guide, it is easy to do.  If you do not have the die starter guide or the barrel OD is not correct, take it to a smith or good machinist.

This question will get asked a lot should the ban come to an end -- and Kurt and other gunsmiths will be up to their elbows in barrels to thread.

Here's to that day!
