Will the buffer spring of a tactical carbine be adversely affected if the rifle is stored with the bolt open (i.e., spring compresses)?  I'm concerned the continuous compression from the open bolt could weaken the strength of the spring in the butt buffer assembly.

Springs fatigue due to cycling, not from remaining in a fixed position.  It makes no difference to the life of the spring whether the rifle is stored with the bolt open or closed.  I store mine with an open bolt indicator inserted so there is no question whether the rifle is safe when I take it out of the case.
