This AR building looks like major fun. My local dealer has the following lowers in stock; Oly (T-3 what ever that means),Armalite, ASA and DPMS. Prices are close, ranging from $119.00-$139.00. Which would be the best choice? Am I correct in assuming this is the only part I need to get from a dealer and I can buy everything else on line. Are there better buys out there? Price breaks on quanity purchases?
Thanks...this site beats any book or magazine for information.

I've seen lowers, stripped down lowers, for less on the equipment exchange.  But you have to keep in mind, what is the FFL charge, and will he charge for a NICS.  But there are deals out there for lowers, forged lowers at $100 or less.  Good quality too.

They are the producers of Armalit's lowers, so it's a good quality and good price.  But again, please factor in, shipping/FFL charge/NICS charge/tax.  If it adds up and still is cheaper, purchase it from someone else, but if it adds up and it's break even or over by a few dollars, go with the dealer.  Just remember, the dealer has it in stock, right?  You can have the lower almost immediately.

Good luck on which ever you decide.

Those prices are just about what you would pay for one via the internet, plus FFL fees and shipping. I would buy from your local shop then, to keep them in business.

Once you have that, if you go the complete kit route, you don't need to buy anything else except the kit and some mags. If you buy a barreled upper, you'll need to get a lower parts kit, stock, bolt assembly and charging handle (the latter 2 might come with some "complete" uppers). You'll also need to get magazines and ammo.

BTW, I would go with either the DPMS or the Armalite (which is probably an Eagle Arms lower).

[b] Those are pretty fair prices for stripped lowers. Sure you could fine them cheaper and the link Sterling posted is a one of those places. Don't forget all the costs your going to incur (shipping and transfer fees) Yes the lower is all you need the FFL dealer for . Good Luck .

Thanks Guys. I will go for the Armalite or DPMS. Has any of you tried the J&T Varmint type heavy barrel kit? If so how is the accuracy?
