I have a CLE free float setup and want to install it. I've never removed an AR barrel, looking for the gurus to tell me what I might be lacking. Have the Army TM, read the barrel install process several times, the GI barrel wrench (the little square rig), proper grease, 1/2" drive torque wrench. I'll be doing this at work during lunch/after hours on a really secure vise with the help of a machinist -- also have both upper vise block and barrel vise block. I've read the other posts and think I know which block to use for what. My main questions are: How does the barrrel nut come off of a standard 20" A2 HBAR? The TM says not to remove it so no details provided there. Will it just slide off the muzzle end with the front sight removed? The float tube has its own barrel nut, will I have trouble installing it with the GI wrench? If I've omitted anything, or you see possible problems please let me know. TIA H.Train |

So you got your new handguard huh? To remove barrel, 1 Clamp BARREL into vise using clamp made for it. 2 Use a 1/2" drive handle and barrel wrench to loosen assembly. NOTE: while turning push wrench combo toward reciever to compress the slip ring spring!! (or else it will bind). 3 Remove retaining ring. 4 remove slip ring spring. 5 Barrel nut will now slide off the barrel w/ FS removed. Let me know when you get that done. |
