I called my gun dealer and he said it will take 12-16 weeks to get a stripped lower.  Is this normal, and is there any way to get one quicker?  Thanks!

Wow I would say find another dealer.  That is plain rediculous.

You need to find an FFL that will do a transfer (most gun shops will). Go to www.quanticoarms.com and look up the FFL's that they have filed the paperwork on. If there is one close to you, contact them and see if they will do the transfer. Then order from Quantico and have it sent to the FFL address that they have on file. You will have it in less than a week. If they don't have the paperwork of a nearby FFL, have your local FFL send the paperwork to them. Once Quantico receives it, they'll send the receiver out to the FFL. That will all take 10 days at the most.

If he is an FFL he should be able to get one in a week or less.

It depends what brand of lower you want.  I think RRA and Bushmaster are the two hardest to get right now and that my be causing a supply problem.  If you don't care the I would follow Koke's advise and get an Eagle Arms lower.

I don't bother with ordering and transfering, for me it is much more simple to just pick up a few at the next gunshow. There are gunshows every few months, it isn't hard to plan ahead and pick up a few at a time, heck get a box full and be set for life.

I ordered a CMT forged lower from Numrich Gun Parts on Monday and picked it up from my FFL on Friday. It is an excellent receiver made by Continental Machine Tool, which also makes receivers for Colt. The price is good also at $99.99 a pop. The finish matches up well with the J&T kit I assembled to it.

I don't see too many gun shows in upstate NY. Are these usually large arena shows or held in much smaller venues?

I also normally order a "small" item like this locally!  With that said, I made a MISTAKE the other week and ordered a Bushmaster Stripped lower without asking for a confirmation of the cost before I ordered it!  It ended up costing me $190 for a stripped lower!

Perhaps this is the going rate for Bushmaster lowers but I would have rather had TWO Eagle Arms lowers for about the same money!  http://www.quanticoarms.com/armalite/eagleArmsReceivers.htm

I like Bushmaster products but either my local FFL gouged me pretty good or Bushsmaster's prices have really jumped over the past couple years!

Quarterbore, I recently spent (within the past 6months) about $160 for my Bushy stripped lower. Thats a far cry from when when I built my 1st AR using Bushy parts at $90 for stripped or $180 for a complete lower.

Check with Pete from Legal Transfers.  I had my lower in about 2-3 weeks from ordering.  And a week of that was waiting for his next shipment.  He's very good to deal with and has great prices.
