| Any advice on J&T vs Model 1 kits? |
|
I bought a Model 1 M4 kit from them about 6 months ago. I used a Bushmaster lower reciever and the only problems I had was that the trigger was out of spec, because it wouldnt allow me to put the safety in. Luckily, I had Rock River fire control parts around, so I replaced the Model 1 parts that came with the kit, with the extras I had, NO problems after that. The upper reciever assembly fit very nicely to my lower, it was a nice tight fit. The only gripes that I had about the kit was that the upper didnt match my lower. A judicious application of CLP darkened it until the color matched, but after a day at the range, or if the weapon gets particularly hot, it needs to be CLP'd again. Overall, while it has worked well for me, I'd be more prone to use a J&T kit next time. I have heard nothing but good things about them and they have the little things that I pay attention to such as, a sling swivel rivet as opposed to a roll pin and the front sight tower pins look a little better than the Model 1. Thats just my .02, so I hope that helps..... |

I ordered from Model 1 and love my gun. It is a flatop, 20" SS, fluted barrel with a freefloated hardguard. It shoots under an 1" at 100 yards for 5 shot groups. It has functioned flawless in every way. It didn't come with any documentation what so ever. I found what I needed on this site to put it together. My next one will be a RRA but I'm in no hurry. The kit matched my Eagle Arms lower fine. Tom |
| I have assembled two kits from J&T and have nothin but love for these kits! I hae a 16" CAR Kit and an M4 kit both mounted to Eagle Arms Lowers. J&T has great customer service and from what I have read on the boards and what i hae expierienced they will quickly correct any problems or mistakes with their orders. These guns shoot great. My ONLY complaint was the very tight firing pin retaining pins. I called J&T to ask about it and h explained it was mostly do to the thick surface coating on the pin and would become less tight with use, he also stated that if I was not happy he would send me another. I really wasn't unhappy just inquiring about the pin. I did not have him send me another pin, and after a few range sessions and a few cleanings it is just fine. Place your order you will not be disappointed with J&T. |

Guys I have dealt with both of these companies in person at gun shows. I Have a Model 1 M-4 Forgery kit thats been running great for me for about 5 yearsfrom Mod 1. Now with Model 1 you have to really check what your buying. You may have a huge sellection of built uppers to choose from. If you notice closely some uppers have the cheaper aluminum front sight base and some have the forged steel. The handguards are trash on most unlined. J&T seems to have the exact same parts but less stock to choose from in person that is. They are also more expensive. This is a side by side comparison at the same show for the same type uppers. |
| I,ve built both kits. Go with the JT kit, it has a slightly better finish and the fire control parts are of better quality. The two things on the Model 1 I don,t like are the front sight post and the charging handle, but these dislikes are only cosmetic, has nothing to do with function. |
