I've watched the board for a while, and don't really have much worthy of posting so I don't.  Think it's better to shut up if you don't know anything than talk and reveal your ignorance.

Anyway, I have tried my hand at building a couple ARs now.  First was a CAR on a BM lower.  Now a Dissipator and 20" A2 on RRA lowers.  One thing I noticed on all the builds was the fact that the detent springs on the takedown pins (especially the front) were too long.  The first time, I took a little off the detent itself.  The next two times, I shortened the springs.

Even so, the darn springs have so little play in them that the takedown pins are pretty tough to work.  Is this a normal occurence, or are my parts inferior, or am I just missing something, or something I've not even thought of?

Most of us usually take a drill bit and hand spin in the hole that the spring goes into.  There is usually some shavings, metal flash and crap that gets in the hole.  So give the hole a good (but gentle) reeming with a just slightly undersized drill bit (by hand!) and then blow out the hole.  If the spring is still too long after that, then nip a little it of it off to fit - which is also a common practice.
