I'm looking to build my 2nd AR, The first one I will build myself. I have a 20" A2 model now and I'm not sure iif I want to go to a 16" M4 type with a flattop or stick with the 20" barrel and a A1 upper, like the Canadian version.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what would be better for casual shooting and tactical competition? I've learned to handle my 20" pretty well in my house, so length does not really matter to me, I don't care about looks only performance. What about a CAR-15 style?

Thanks

Wolf-Pack,

First, Welcome! [beer]

Second, IMO you'd be better off building an M4 style AR next.  You already have a 20" so try something different.  I have 2 M4's already so my next purchase will be a 20".  Heck, we should all have at least one of every style (and manufacture)!

do both!
for your second one, definitely the M4gery!!
but for your first, change the upper. The A1/C7 is very easy to use, and easy to zero. I've now changed out all of my A2's for C7's.[8D]

Welcome to the site, Wolf-Pack.  I would agree with building an M4 style for your second ar.  Thats what I done.  My first one was a 20" then built an M4 for the second one.  I built my m4 with all RRA parts and it looks and shoots great.

Most shooters at the tactical (IPSC/3-gun) matches around here shoot 16" guns.  Definitely get a flat-top.  Lots more options for sights/optics.
