I just received my parts kit today and instead of getting an A2 upper, I received a Flattop receiver. I do not know if I should keep it and put a removable carry handle or just send it back. I have no experience with flattops. I know you can mount more options on a flattop, but if I keep it will a carry handle be as rugged as a fixed handle? Also, will the point of impact remain the same or change when it is removed and reinstalled? So many questions, so little time for answers. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Years ago a friend of mine was going to buy a AR and he told me he was thinking about getting the one with the removable carry-handle.

He came to ask me about it because I was in the Marines and humped my M16 all over the Gulf.

I told him that it would most likely get loose and rattle and such.  I also said that "if is was any good the military would be using it on their rifles."

Well, he didnt take my advice and ordered it anyway.  I was very skeptical that it would suck.  We took it out to take it through its paces.  I was VERY impressed!!

I decided then that when I purchased my first AR I would definately have the removable -handle and as I stare into my safe I smile at my Colt 6700 pre-ban =)

Definately stick with the flattop !  It is just as rugged as the other and more versatile.

I would stick with the Flat-Top for sure!  They are much more versatile when it comes to mounting different types optics and other accesories. I have two flat-top rifles and two different scopes and a red-dot sight, plus the carry handles that im always swapping around on them.

I like my flattop with removable carry handle.  I think it's the best way to go if you only have one upper.  You can get the A2 upper later, but in the meantime you have a good platform for optics or irons.
