So I have a few questions.. I have a s&w m&p 15 and I want a light that I can mount at the 6 O'clock position for night shooting.  I want to be able to shine up in trees and fields.  Would the trl-1s Hp fit at the six o'clock position or would it interview with my front iron sight? (The stock one). Also would he trl-1s HL be a better option for what I want it for?? I have a global military gear quad rail and a bushnell trs-25 red dot if that helps.., thanks

Here is one of my setups. If you have the standard gas block or any gas block with a bayo lug you will need a riser mount.

For out in the fields i would go with the HP because it has the reach, it is supposed to reach out to about 400 meters. I took it out one night to test it and was illuminating some areas fairly well out to about 250 yards, thats about all the testing I have done with it for now.

I have not tried the HL yet (on my wishlist for Christmas), it can reach out to about 100 yards and has a wide spill.

so what happens if I don't have a riser? Will it hit the piece under the front sight?  I'm either getting the hp or hl for christmas as well and I'm leaning towards the HP right now

Also why don't you mount it on the side?  I'm new to ar and I don't know if that comes in contact with your line of sight or what just asking!

I have a regular TLR-1, and it seems to kick out pretty far, havent tried or even seen the HP yet.

the bayonet lug will keep you from mounting it there if you dont have a riser. it will mount without the riser if you dont have a bayonet lug or a gas block thats not to thick there.

it can mount on the side without a riser, the bezel will be about a quarter inch from the gas block. I put it at 6 O Clock so it is easier to for me to activate the switch, it i had a tape switch i would probably mount it on the side.

Ok,

My setup...

Tlr1 hp at 6:00...

Use a BLAM mount on your bayonet lug...it's totally out of the way...and places if a bit farther forward and minimizes the barrel shadow...

I use a remote switch in a magpul illumination kit...

The hp is way better distance throw than the hl...that parabolic matches FOV of my ta31-f optics perfect as well...
