Hey everyone, I have been lurking a while and have a question. After years away from guns I recently got back into them (now that the kids are grown I have a little extra funds). Just finished my first AR budget build and realize my eyes aren't what they use to be LOL. I am having trouble seeing my rear sight, I can see good enough to shoot but after a while my eyes get fatigued and it gets hard to see. At this point I only need reading glasses but if I try using those I can see the rear sight but nothing else. I wanted to stay with the regular sights because I feel I would develop better skill using them. I don't plan on using this for anything other than target practice/plinking. I was thinking about getting the Vortex strikefire red dot. What's your thoughts? Thanks in advance for the advice!
I've found that even with the Strikefire, as my eyes fatigue the red dot tends to take on an eliptical shape , almost like it's trying to split into two, if that makes any sense. Have never used an Aimpoint, so I can't say if it's the single red dot or not. I've got an Eotech and that helps from the standpoint of having other points of reference around the dot itself.
This is the light section so don't be surprised if it get's moved to the optic section. My eyes are jacked up from type 1 diabetes so I understand what you are saying. I have found that I really like my current Eotech, the EXPS2, if you get a chance try one out. Most decent gun shops will have one they will let you look through, or when at the range ask someone, most are friendly and like to help others.
