I'm looking for any feedback on green laser sights.  First, I have looked at a few ads, and it looks like there are a few models with adjustable dispersion settings from fine 'aiming systems' to wide 'illumination'.  Can anyone comment on the effectiveness if this type of system and the manufacturer of the product you use?

Thanks.

I've got a green light laser side mounted on a Knight's SR 15. It has windage and elevation adjustments which is great but also there lies the rub. At what distance do I bore sight it for? First of all in the daytime it is virtually impossible to see in Texas sunlight at distance. On the other hand at nightime it is outstanding and quite easy to spot even at 70 + yards. I've got a 650 lumen Fenix light mounted on the other side and at night it will wash out the green settings of my red/green dot scope, but not the laser. The problem with the side mount is that it creates a focal parallel of about 1.25" from the bore, so you in effect get one precise bullet intersect. I've decided to use the laser for a cqb distance of 15 yards. My dot scope is sighted zero at 50-200 yards and so shoots low at cqb distances of for example 10-20 yards. I set the green light laser at that close distance in case I need to make for example, a precise head shot at say 30 feet. I purposely omited the brand because the mfg. was a pain to deal with. Hope this helped.

What is the point of a visible laser?  Wouldn't/couldn't it just give away your position?  They seem redundant with all of the red dot optics that are out there.

So these "Navy SEALs" who have access to thousand dollar lasers that are combat proven, are choosing cheaply made junk that wont hold zero on a BB gun?

Not sure if serious....

I could tell just from scanning for a bit that they were crap.  No description for the products really, and there's a pressure switch for a combined 'tactical light' and laser.  Get your junk out of this thread.

I had a green laser that was basically a laser pointer with an AR mount.  Showed up great day or night, but you couldn't get it sighted in worth a crap.  I have a Crimson Trace Red Dot on my Glock and it works great, but you can't really see it in daylight.  I would save your money and either get a nice weapons light or night sites.  Unless you are getting military grade lasers are joke for us average Joe's.    My $.02

I have a Lasermax green and Primary Arms green.  The Lasermax is much more compact but it eats expensive batteries pretty quickly.  I actually use the $70 Primary Arms laser more than the Lasermax because I have it in a QD ring mount so I can share it between different guns and quickly zero the laser to whatever sights are already on the gun.  It's fun to ring steel w/ from the hip, but the most practical use for mine is "saving" the zero on a gun when I have to temporarily remove an optic for some reason.  I've had two tape switches die on me inexplicably for the Primary Arms laser but in both cases they had a new one in the mail to me very quickly.  Given the price I paid for it ($79 IIRC), I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I felt the need to have two of them.

Having been in combat a few times in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I see ZERO point for a visible laser. and IR laser yes defiantly but visible not so much. We were issued "green beams" dont remember what brand they were and the only thing we EVER used them for was to scare the crap out of kids that were getting too close.

visible laser on a two way range?  Not my first choice.

Hunting, ok.

I have used a PA green laser to shoot hogs, works fine.  Cannot beat the price.  Never had them shoot loose.

Figure out how far off the bore the beam is and hold for that difference.

Example, if the laser is 1 and 3/4 inches to the right of the bore, say 3 o'clock, hold the dot 1 and 3/4 inches to the right of your target.

no crossing line of sight.  Only have to worry about drop and wind as usual.

I took an in bore laser and used that to help me set up the difference.   Be aware of how large your dot gets at distance.

Both of the PA lasers I have are great.  I would not want to take them to combat, but they are fine for night hunting or in the late afternoon.

I have the IR lasers but they bloom a bit unless you use a IR light with them.  And you need the pvs-14 or equivalent to see them of course.

OK, reread what YOU were asking about.

The green laser illuminators ( like my subzero 50) are awesome as illuminators.

They however lack the ability to make a small enough dot to hunt with.  Use your low power scope or red dot and an illuminator
instead of more expensive night vision to start as that is an option.  Don't make the beam any smaller than you have to
as the more intense light MAY spook the targets and run them off.  Or, they may just ignore it until they learn to fear it.

Hogs see both red and green light, just in some areas they have not yet learned to associate the lights with death.

The illuminator cranked all the way down to a small dot will go a very long ways.  Very long.  So far in fact that your bullet will fall out of the cone of illumination.   Great pointer and spotter, but not the best choice for target engagement.

Hope this helps.  I spent a bit of coin finding out what doesn't work.

I ordered several greens and reds from china,  thought what the heck, for playing around, why not.  It's going on my M&P 15-22 for plinking and if that doesn't work out, I do have BB guns!    I should have it in the next few weeks.  I'll try it out then fleebay if it doesn't work out.  Sorry I couldn't suggest something quality.  I'm only using them for hog hunting and will try them out on an AR15- ~25 yards from my feeder.  http://dx.com/p/5mw-green-laser-rifle-scope-with-gun-mount-1-x-ul123-103686

The (VIS/GREEN) LD units that I have used seem to puss out about 40-45oF.  Activate the switch you would have to wait for the diode.  Sometimes up to 5 seconds and then the beam was really weak.  Very temp sensitive.

The only reason I would ever have a Visable Laser is because it was slaved to the IR.
