I am finishing up my latest build, but I'm still missing  a light.

I need help deciding between the Elzetta ZFL-M60, the Surefire M300/M600, or the Surefire P2X Fury EAG model. This will be my first weapon light, and will probably be mounted in a gear sector mount. The gun is mostly used at the range, but will also be used for home defense/SHTF if needed.

So what are your overall thoughts on these lights? Lumens? Quality? Appearance?

Also, what are your recommendations for tailcap function?

It's going on this:

PS: Sorry for the crappy pic

Thank you!

You could do worse than an M300 or M300 Ultra on a Mossie 2400 Mount.  It would put the standard switch within easy reach of your thumb.

I think you mean X300, the M300 is a whole different animal and there is not an M300 Ultra...yet.

OP - That is quite a range of lights in terms of beam profiles and overall brightness, but they are all of good quality. The M300 is the least powerful of your list but if weight is an issue then it is still a light worth considering. The M600 is comparable to the M60 in terms of being fairly close in overall output (perhaps a few more lumens from the M60,) and both being classified as more of a thrower (with the M600 edging out the M60,) in that the bulk of their light is in a small concentrated spot that is great for distance illumination but less effective in enclosed spaces or when called upon to illuminate a large area. The Fury/X300 Ultra is a beast with more than twice the overall output of the M600 or M60. However while the Fury/X300U has a much larger hotspot than the M600 it is actually fairly close in intensity while also adding a great deal of light in the corona or spill of the beam which is great for illuminating a large area -even indirectly such as when strobing. The P2X and X300U are quickly gaining in popularity among professionals such as Pat Rogers who was recently featured in an article for SWAT magazine discussing these new brighter weapon lights.

Get the EAG Fury...you won't regret it.

+1 The Fury is the most impressive light I've owned yet, and you can't go wrong with the price compared to the others. Momentary/Clickie for the tailcap...

I happen to favor the handheld surefires

The cheaper surefire G2x tatical can be had cheap and the have more than enough lumens for HD / etc!
Now instead of 200lumen they are 350lumen  seen one listed for under 70bucks

Add a 25.00 Viking tatics mount and you will save more money.

BTW
I remember when I thought 50lumen was good enough for a tatical light

I noticed both the Surefire Fury and G2x have models that are either single output, and models that are dual output, with a 15 lumen low output level.  .  Is it possible to run a dual output flashlight on an AR15?  Is it easy to get messed up and mistakenly put the turn on the dual output flashlight on the low setting.  Should I stick to the single output only models?

Thanks.

Is it possible to put it on a carbine?

Sure is.

Is it a good move?

Nope.

If you want a low powered light for whatever reason, there are a million small lights that you can epoxy onto a rail panel.
But for use as a weapon mounted light, use it as a high intensity light only

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the recommendations. Looks like the Fury is pretty popular.

One question about the Fury: Is it too bright for indoor use? I've seen several posters say it is not too bright, but from everything I know about weapon mounted light (which is very little), 500 lumens should be blinding indoors.

What am I missing?

Reality.

WSe run them indoors regularly.

No one has been issued a white cane yet.

Don't buy into myths...

What Pat Rogers said, and to add to that on the dual output Fury the 1st output is the low setting and you have to click twice fast to get to the high setting, not very usefull for a weapon mounted light. If SF had made it the other way around, different story.

PLUS ONE

This would be the cheapest route to getting a surefire weapon light on your gun. For activation of your weapon light it really depends on your grip and if you use a vfg, afg, hand stop, or nothing at all. In my opinion for what i do a clickie tail cap works best with all types of grips for me. YMMV. I used to think 200 lumens was more than enough until i purchase my EAG Fury, and there is a major difference in spill with a bit more in the hot spot plus the range is extended. Now i can see everything in my house at night with the EAG Fury, and its a press for momentary and a click for constant on which is superior to the twist for constant on. The click for constant on was the main reason i bought it.

Good luck op...

Also no blinding effect here unless you look right into the light like a fool.

I happen to favor the NO TWIST tail caps on my surefires.

Now if they would shroud there tailcaps like the tail cap on the E2L Defender

BTW
I bet we will see other flashlights (2-123) with  higher than 500lumen!

I think Streamlight has a protac at 600lumen

And theres FINIX with there PD32 at 700 lumen

Beware I think fenix might  overrate there lights .

I am sure there will be lights over 500 lumens, but will it be as durable and compact as the EAG Fury i dont know. As of now the EAG Fury will be on my gun for a long long time expecialy with my knew thorntail mount coming in.

The surefire  handhelds are pretty durable!  In the beginning I mounted a stock  incadesent surefire G2 on my carbine. Over 3000rds witout any issues.

I wont mount anything but surfire.

The light is just a little long to get a thumb over bore grip with my vfg and a 9 inch rail and that is why i got the thorntail mount.

Yeah, the length was one of one of the things keeping me from getting a Fury. Seems like the thorntail would be a good solution.

I originally wanted the m600c but the eag fury is very close in length and weight with 500 lumens, and 1/3 the price.
