Looking at a couple of lighting options for our ARs. So far I was looking for a LED weapon light with good lumens and a wired momentary switch. I found the Streamlight TLR-1s HP which I thought was a little big, Surefire X300, etc. Friends of mine tell me to stay away from the lighting systems meant for for a handgun due to the amount of recoil it can bare.
I'm trying to see if there are any recommendations on what features I should look for and what other brands are out there I can explore. Streamlight and Surefire is what always come to my head. Me and my wife have the AR fever and we are building both of our AR's slowly and trying to get feedback from you guys and friends so we can have some bad ass weapons. Thanks in advance |

Buy extra tape switches. I understand that is the weak link.
I would think there is much more movement/shock on a pistol than an AR. The exact physics are probably more complicated. I understand some scopes that are fine on rifles will fall apart quick on some air guns. Myself, I just have a LED flashlight in a PLS-1 that slides on and off my forearm rail. Even with the PLS-1 on I can use it in a modified Rodger's grip with a pistol or handheld without a firearm. I like that as an option since it's not polite to point guns at people when you don't need to. I've tested some really cheap drop-ins in Solarforce and Surefire hosts and I would stay away from the multimode ones for mounting on a firearm. For hand held use they are fine but mounted directly to the gun they can/will change modes due to recoil. Best Surefire 6P/Z2 fit is Lumens Factory drop in. Best made drop-in is the Malkoff IMHO. |

Olight warrior m21x.
Why pay way more for a Surefire when Olight is just as good. Takes an unbelievable beating, heat, cold, water proof. Bright as hell, lot's of settings, comes with hard case and other accessories....Got mine on sale for $79.95. Best light for the price, bar none. |

I have a Surefire G2, and 6P. I also have an Olight M20 warrior s 340 lumen s2, and 600 lumen M21X. I also have a Fenix TA21, But my favorite light is my Solarforce L2P, because of the Surefire interchangeability, craftsmanship that is comparable to Surefire, the ability to use 18650 batteries, and the satisfaction of building the EXACT light I wanted to mount on my AR, without paying half what I would have paid for another Surefire, that does not even perform half as good without an upgrade. I can tell you that the durability of a weapon light, is directly related to whether the electronics, and the led module are potted with thermal epoxy, and properly heat sinked. With my L2P I picked a Thrunite 420 lumen xml p60 drop in module, that I thermally potted with arctic aluminum, and heat sinked with aluminum tape. You can pick up a Solarforce host at lighthound for very cheap. (a mill spec type 3 anodized L2P host for $22) and even if you don't have the ability to thermally pot electronics, you could just drop in an already potted Malkoff module, and still come out on top. I do like my Olights a-lot more than either of my Surefires or my Fenix, in-fact my M20 warrior is my everyday beater light, because of the well thought out modes, and the awesome runtime.
Your choice: Surefire 6P $70.00 or more + a Malkoff M61 $59.00 Solarforce L2P $22.00 + Malkoff M61 $59.00 It's a no brainer for me. Here is a link http://www.lighthound.com/Solar-Force-L2P-Flashlight-Host-for-18650––L2P-Host-HA-III-Black-Finish_p_3473.html |
